Awaken the Student in Your Athletes
Eligibility! Eligibility! Eligibility!
As a coach you want your athletes to be eligible to play, but how do you ensure your student-athlete stay motivated off the court? A coach's job is to focus on winning and getting to the ‘ship. You have practices, road games, working on plays, watching film, and many other responsibilities that drain you.
As a former student-athlete, I was once in the shoes of the individuals you are coaching. I was eager and passionate on the court and had dreams of making it to the WNBA to play amongst greats like Cynthia Cooper, but my passion for my grades suffered as a result. I prioritized going to the weight room and “EXTRA” practice over being with peers who would assist me with studying. Before I knew it, my grades were slipping and that's when I had a reality check. Grades + Athletic talent = Scholarships. Not, Athletic talent + Me = Scholarships. My parents were not the most affluent, but they knew I needed to keep my grades up to stay on the court. Their encouragement and support propelled me. Once I made the adjustment in my own life to focus like I do on the court in the classroom, I saw the benefit of being able to obtain scholarships for college.
Fast forward years later, I switched my personal achievements from wanting to be the first woman in the NBA (you read it right...lol) to wanting to be the first woman to get an engineering degree in my family. This achievement didn't come with all the lights and cameras as I originally planned, but it came with me setting a new pace for my family.
It is my passion to inspire your student-athletes to see beyond their athletic abilities and understand how the power of discipline and teamwork in academics on and off the court has power to achieve “WINS”.
I have included a link my personal page, where you can learn more about who I am. It is my passion to motivate young athletes and show them the value of being a hard worker on and off the court. More importantly, I want to answer their questions and help them with the bigger vision of themselves. That link is provided here : TiffanyChatman.com.
